How to Do Business Comparison & Stand Out From Competitors?

You are currently viewing How to Do Business Comparison & Stand Out From Competitors?

The present business ecosystem is very competitive in nature. You come up with an idea and, the next moment you will see someone really working on it. Whether it’s Google or a small company in any corner of your town; all have competitors.

Competitors give choices to your customers. And, with these choices comes the risk on your source of revenue or on your business.

However, competitors are not always bad. They give you challenges, forces you to bring out your competitive attitude and all of that makes you more attentive and cautious. You start caring more about your customers, your services improve and you try all new ways around to stay ahead from those who are offering the same to your audience.

There’s beauty in competition, and that’s why I believe business comparison is a necessity of time. It is something we all must have a tight grip.

Today at NxtDecade, we have John Sernryd and Joe Fievez, Co-founders of Comparely, to tell us how their marketing agency is helping business and startups with a well researched comparative study. And further based on those comparative studies, his marketing agency offers services that increase the chances of success.

Apart from that, we will also know more about his entrepreneurial journey.

About John Sernryd

Hey, John Sernryd here I’m one of the founders of Comparely. When I got into the digital space, I was very young thanks to my mother working in web development. I quickly learned the ropes and wherever I went to work or study. And, I always wound up helping people out with their digital presence on websites and on social media.

I fell head over heels in love with the profession from a timid age and I’ve been in it pretty much my entire life.

Interview

Q1. How do you describe business competition?

I would describe it as a necessary part of a free market. If businesses wouldn’t compete it would be easy for individual businesses to stay stagnant without any reason to grow and improve. As such the entire market will, as a result, stop evolving and innovating. A market economy breeds innovation and without competition, innovation is severely limited.

Q2. Do you believe that having competitors is good? If yes, then why. And if no then why not!

Competition is what I live for, I absolutely love it. It makes services and products affordable. It brings new technology. New resources and a heap of other benefits you wouldn’t get if you had no competition.

Asides from that, you can learn a lot from your competition which will help you improve upon your business, which in turn helps them to improve even further. This cycle in there will keep spiraling forever and ever.

So in short: I strongly believe that if you have a good strategy for developing your business, competition won’t hurt, it will only help you grow and evolve.

Q3. How is business comparison different from business copying?

Copying a business would be just doing the same thing as they are without any goal of improving the space you operate in. But for me, it also extends to how you operate. If you operate business A in a manner that is identical to business B then you wouldn’t be able to improve, learn and move your space further.

A good example of this is Samsung and Apple: they both make phones, however, the phones cater to different people with different preferences and even though the products are similar in nature they constantly battle each other to have the best phone, with the newest tech and the smartest functions.

This for me is the biggest difference, if you don’t want to improve constantly and if you’re comfortable following in someone else’s footsteps to the inch then you’re copying. However, if you want to innovate, compete and stay one step ahead every time then comparing yourself to others is a necessity, how else will you know what to keep a step ahead of?

That being said, it’s relatively easy to get tunnel vision when working on your own thing. So I recommend subscribing to a newspaper within your industry. That way you constantly learn new things and see what your competitors are doing. Take a minute with lunch every day to scroll it through and ingest the knowledge, maybe that’s what takes your business to the next level.

Q4. How to best compare company A from company B? (given that both are competitors of each other)

When comparing two direct competitors we recommend you look at their price points, previous work, and niche specialization. Have they worked a lot in your niche before? What’s their price and what can I expect from the price? A pretty good bonus is whether or not you will enjoy working with them, a good partnership will often make the whole experience more enjoyable.

Using these questions and then determining what feels best given your current situation should help you come to the right conclusion.

Q5.What is your vision with Comparely? What strategies are you using to grow your startup?

My vision is straightforward, I want to change the way we think about marketing and digital growth in general. I feel like lately the digital space has been dragged through the dirt and in some cases rightfully so. What we want to do with Comparely is to get some of the most prominent companies with the most skilled people together in one place. Right now we are using a vetting method we developed together with SHS here in Sweden called CCS. It’s a thorough process all of our partners need to get through (with flying colors) in order to get a contract with us.

When it comes to growing our company we have two aspects to think of. Getting new clients and getting new partners. The strategies we use are all 100% digital.

For getting new clients we use Facebook ads and online networking primarily. Those are really just ways for us to get a first touchpoint with people. We want them to see us and think “hey that’s pretty great” so if they (at any point in the future) decide to get in touch with us then we know they had a good first impression

Q6. What are the things that you compare and how do those comparisons matter for any business?

We compare digital growth services. This means Webdesign App development, Social Media Marketing, SEO and PPC to mention a few.

The comparison itself is a good step in the right direction but we dont end the process there. During the process we actively press down the prices by allowing our partners to anonymously bid for the project. From these bids we then compare to find you the best fit, at the best possible price with the best possible company.

But what our clients usually like the most is that they almost always only need to talk to one person, our consultations specialists. These members of our team help you along with everything you need from A-Z and will be with you as long as you stay!

I think comparing in this safe way with CCS and everything else we have developed offers a sense of security to the customer. So asides from them getting the best possible value out of every dollar they pay they also get the most personal service out there and no matter what they need, we will find someone to do it. The best part is we never charge for our consultations, ever.

Q7. What keeps you motivated to become an entrepreneur?

My motivations lie in different areas. Primarily I love working with people, there’s no better way then through owning your own business. I still do consultations purely from my love of interaction, I think that’s my main drive.

But as to why I chose to keep operating in this industry is because I want to change it. There’s a lot of bad eggs out there and I wanted a platform where people could feel confident that they would get what they were promised. That to this day is something i strive to improve and build upon

Q8. Among all the hassle of your business and work, how do you keep yourself healthy and fit?

I work out 2-3 times a week and try to eat as healthy as possible.

Winding Up

It great pleasure talking with John and their startup. Comparely is one of its kind where they leverage business comparison as a key part of market research and transform that into some kind of business advantage.
