What is Generative AI? (With Examples)

You are currently viewing What is Generative AI? (With Examples)

Are you aware that with the recent Artificial Technologies(AI), you can generate content in a matter of seconds? These contents include texts, images, audio, video, and even codes. All required of you are prompts

This article will explore what generative AIs are with few examples for different purpose.

What is Generative AI?

Generative AI is a type of artificial intelligence capable of producing text, images, audio, video, codes, and many more when given a prompt.

One thing most people don’t know is that generative AI is not a brand-new technology. Yes, they have been existing long before the 2000s in their own way.

A unique thing about generative AI is its ability to produce content in the same format it was given and also in a format different from what it was given. An example is text-to-text and image-to-video.

Generative AI has spanned several industries ranging from education, media, and entertainment to the health sector.

What are Prompts?

Prompts are textual descriptions that help a certain AI tool to understand the user’s requirements. For example, when you open ChatGPT, a box looking like this would appear:

In the “Send a message” box, you type your query. It’s a prompt.

However, AI Prompt Writing is a skill in itself. For instance, if you want ChatGPT to write a LinkedIn post for you, you first need to describe the kind of post. What tone should it be in? What’s the narrative? What do you want the post to include? Is it a story, informational or promotional?

Such extra details must be added to utilize AI tools to their full potential. Explain each detail of how you want the output to be. That’s how you write a good prompt.

How Does Generative AI Work?

Generative AI aims to mimic the human capacity for creativity and the generation of new ideas. Now, let’s discuss how this works.

Generative AI uses complex algorithms and neural networks to learn and identify patterns from vast amounts of data. The AI system is exposed to a dataset containing examples of the content it aims to generate, such as images, text, or music.

Through this exposure, the AI system learns the underlying patterns and structures in the data. It identifies correlations, and relationships, allowing it to generate new content that aligns with the learned patterns.

In other words, AI is taught to recognize what makes a piece of content look like a specific type or category.

Once trained, the generative AI system can generate original content by sampling from the learned patterns.

Examples of Generative AI

Generative AI is used across several fields and industries and they are not limited there. Its use has brought up the unending argument of “Will AI replace humans?
